Traeger Smoker Australia

Trager Smoker was the first pellet smoker ever made for smoking meat. Back in 1985, Joe Traeger put together a simple auger-powered smoker for smoking food. Since then the technology has advanced and there has been more competition on the market however ever Traeger Grill still leads the pack with their innovation and experience.

These days, Traeger grills Australia is still the best-performing smoker in Australia with a wide range of choices. Some pit masters prefer to be more hands-on when smoking, they love playing with fire and manning the pit through a 12-hour smoke. There is something primal about this process and nothing compares to the pure sense of satisfaction when everyone is sitting down enjoying your smoked platter and commenting on how amazing the meal was. If this sound more like you than an offset smoker or reverse flow smoker it is perfect for you. Alternatively, if all you want to do is cook some fish then maybe you should be looking at our fish smokers.

Pellet smokers are great for automating the smoking process and are used by caterers and restaurants around Australia due to how easy the smoking process is. However, we have found that after adding smoked meat to their menu, some restaurants are returning and asking what other options are available that are easy to use but hold more meat. There is only one, and that is gravity feed smokers, they are larger with multiple smoking shelves and by incorporating a smoker temperature controller with a fan the pit temperature is automated.

Traeger Smoker FAQ

Do you have to clean your Traeger after every use?

Traeger Grill Cleaning: Do You Have to Clean your Traeger After Every Use?
If you're like most Traeger owners, you want to know how to clean a Traeger grill. The good news is that it's not as hard as you might think!

In short, you won’t be cleaning it thoroughly every cook. However, a gentle wipe-over of the grills and any drippings is recommended as well as emptying the burn chamber after every couple of cooks. Remember good maintenance will ensure the longevity of your Traeger Smoker Grill.

A good cleaning will help keep it in good condition and prevent any nasty smells from developing. So, are you ready to learn how to clean a Traeger grill? Let's get started!

The best way to clean the grill is just after you take your meat off. Your meat needs to rest so why not take this time to do some cleaning? While everything is still hot, take a wire brush and give your grill a quick scrub and a wipe with hand towel paper. Every couple of cooks you can remove the cooking grill from your Traeger smoker for a thorough clean. Once they are removed, you can begin scrubbing them with a wire brush, the top will be fairly clean due to your ongoing cleaning but flip it over and give the bottom a scrub. Be sure to get all of the dirt and debris off of the grates. Next, you will need to clean the drip tray. We recommend lining the drip tray with aluminium foil then all you need to do is throw out the dirty foil and lay down some fresh foil for your next cook. There are also properly fitted heavy-duty drip tray liners available for your Traeger. Finally, you will need to clean the inside of the smoker itself. You can do this by using a mild soap and water solution. One thing that you need to do every couple of cooks is to empty/vacuum the burn chamber. This fills up with pellet ash and unless you empty this out, you may have issues lighting your smoker in the future.

Now that you know how to clean a Traeger grill, you can enjoy your next cookout without worry! Just follow these simple steps and your Traeger will be good as new. Happy grilling!

Can you add pellets to Traeger while cooking?

Yes, you can! Unlike trying to refuel a charcoal smoker or gas grill, it’s much much easier to continue smoking when your fuel gets low on your Traeger pellet smoker. Simply add more pellets to the Traeger Hopper while you’re cooking and they will be automatically fed. It’s that easy. Just make sure you never run out of pellets as this may cause an issue during the cook.

Can you grill on Traeger with the lid open?

No - you cannot smoke in your Traeger pellet smoker with the lid open. All smokers are designed to trap maximum heat and smoke in the main chamber to get that delicious smoky flavoured slow-cooked meat. The only exception to this rule is if you are going to sear some meat in your Treger. If this is the case you need to first make sure your grill doesn't have a lot of fat in it that can catch fire, next crank your grill up to 450F (230c) and wait 10 minutes. After that, you can place the meat that needs searing on the grill and sear away with the lid open.

Is my Traeger going to be okay in the rain?

We strongly recommend always covering your Traeger with a cover when not in use. While Traeger pellet smoker are built tough, they do require a 240v power connection, exercise extreme caution as electricity and water don’t mix and the most dangerous connection is the extension lead connecting to your Traeger. If you are cooking and it starts to rain, there won't be an issue as Traeger Smokers are protected from water that falls at an angle of less than 60 degrees from vertical. However, if it is a heavy downpour with extremely strong winds and your smoker is in the rain, it's a good idea to cover your pellet chamber and control panel from the rain or just move it under cover.

Can you leave a Traeger outside winter?

Yes, you can - ensure your Traeger pellet smoker is covered when not in operation. Also, remember that if you decide to use your Traeger in winter then you will use more fuel to maintain your smoking temperature as the Traeger deals with the ambient  temperature outside.
